I have quit a few Elephant Ear Tree logs also know as Parota from a tree supplier to my sawmill that I have a question about how thick and wide to saw the boards. About the best I can find is table tops are anywhere from 2-3 inches thick and some projects are with 1 inch thick boards.
Looking at the finished wood pictures it also shows mostly what appears to be 1 inch wood.
Sure is some beautiful wood.
I sawed one of them into 1 inch and let it dry in the sun a couple of weeks, it didn't warp or twist so must be pretty stable wood.
What would you woodworkers suggest the thickness to saw them? Also should I saw them live edge or not?
I will probably saw them 1/4 inch thicker so the woodworker has plenty of wood to work with.
Also If any body knows much about this wood, is it susceptible to insect damage?
