POSTON WIDEHEAD

This is the second year I have done this and it seems to be working pretty well.

Every siding board I saw is GONE within 7-10 days.
The boards I saw that will be picked up within 3 days are flat stacked.

The boards I saw that will be picked up within 4 days or longer MUST be sprayed with bleach to kill any mold.

The Pine boards are full of sugar and when being introduced to high temps, high humidity and absolutely NO air flow, the bleach spray is a must.

It doesn't matter if your stack is 4 foot wide or 6 foot wide......the mold will grow.

I saw 1x6x10, 1x6x12, 1x8x10, 1x8x12 and some 1x10 wide boards. Just not enough Power Boxes and Fans to go around.  :D

You need to get one of those super cool sprayers Like WDH [Danny} has.

That's a lot of bleach...  :o But who am I to argue with success.

A 5 or 10% solution would likely do the trick.
The bleach only kills what is already there, not future growth that may get introduced later on (as I understand it).
And a little bleach should go a long way.  ;)

I only have to spray it once. The boards are trucked out in 7-10 days. Some to be air dried by the customer, some to get ready for kiln but most of my boards go right up on barns etc.

I'm wondering what would happen if you put some bleach in your lube jug.
Would it save you some arm pump.  :D

But, if it won't work on future mold growth as BT suggested, then nevermind.

To get better air flow, I would have to bring the lumber to Wisconsin.  :D

NaCIO or 'bleach' is an oxidizer. As such, it would cause rusty mill parts in a hurry.

You could add some borax to your spray bottle, it should stop future fungal and insect problems.

We have the same problem here in Charleston, two days after I cut hardwoods they are starting to grow black. day three anything exposed is covered.  I do a lot of J.I. T. work so I never hang on to it longer than that.  :)

Yes the heat and humidity does get tough sometimes. Ask WDH or Custom Sawyer... ;D
But I WOULD NOT want to be in the COLD weather you brothers have up North!

I just tried the Clorox mix with some left over borate solution and water on fresh cut SYP. it turns the wood yellow  in the heart. Is this normal!?

I do not know about SYP, but I used that solution on hard Maple and it did turn a bit brownish on the outside right after spraying.  Two years later, after it was dried and planed, it came out very bright and white.

Yes, this is normal. After a while the yellow will disappear and the wood will look natural.
