How much hydraulic motor would I need to pull the carraige on a bandsaw mill?

It depends on how fast you want it to move.
Have you tried pulling the sawhead with a spring balance to get an idea what kind of force is needed?

i am using hydraulic moters for the lift and feed fuctions... even small hyd moters deliver high torq..  more than enough to feed or lift a sawhead..

I would look for a hydraulic motor that has about 15 cubic inches displacement. The rpm will lower and the torque high with a motor of this size.

depending on flow of the pump.. the pump and moter have to be matched up
