My sister has a small stand of bitternut trees that are all dead or dying. These are trees 10" to 20" in diameter. Other species in the same woods don't seem to be affected. Any ideas on the cause of this?

Welcome to the Forestry Forum, Kirk.

By Bitternut, I assume you mean Bitternut Hickory?

I can't help you much with what might be killing them, but a couple of suggestions to improve your chances of getting a good answer:

Post pictures close-ups of the leaves (particularly ones that are dying) as well as shots of the whole tree that will give us an idea of how the tree is being affected.

Fill in your profile so we know where you are. Someone from your area may be able to fill you in on things in your area affecting that species of tree.
