How close should the log stand be mounted to the collar where the hook is attached on a cant hook?

You want to move away from the collar and place it close to the tip.  Here is a link with pics

How much weight will the Log Stand support?

I deal mostly with 30-36 inch pecan and live oak that weighs a lot (when I can roll it). I do love my LogRite cant hook.

The log stand is very robust as it will hold 1000 lbs.  It would be able to handle those large logs but

you will find it difficult to pull a 36" log up and onto the log stand no matter what leverage you have.  The preferred method for cutting large logs is to cut halfway and then roll the log with a cant hook/peavey then cut the rest of the way through - no log stand needed.

The log stand should be used with small diameter logs that when cutting through would cause the saw to hit the ground.

Ah well. It will help buck limbs for firewood. Ordered!
