No, not really.   My sister found this lovely creature in her garage.

Looks like something you could make a horror movie with.  Fake the background to make it look 40' long and have it fighting Godzilla!

Bibbyman, you never should've put that quarter by it!  You could have had the movie rights and been rich!

I am surprised that you found one that small this late in the year.  I had assumed that the eggs hatched in late spring/early summer, and that the little critters grew fast enough to show a difference in size compared to the hatchlings by the end of the summer.  I guess I'd better read up on the life cycle of the snapping turtle.  Certainly, they only lay eggs once a year.  I just assumed that they would be larger by now.

My sister said they found another the same size in their front yard. Her husband took them to a pond nearby and set the  loose.  I hope he's not planning to swim in that pond in a couple of years!
