Starting to hear the roar of running water in the hood.
We are down a foot of snow since Sunday and with the rain
coming down could see some flooding by tomorrow. Back to spring
and mud .

Quote from: Raider Bill on Today at 11:08:37 AMBig problem with it is it's too short limiting the size ship that fit's under it.
The bigger container and cruise ships can't get into Tampa Bay.
One might suggest that's actually a plus? If over size can't traverse the channel, then there is no risk of one going off course.

Quote from: SawyerTed on Today at 04:59:22 PMTalk about bridges that will make you draw up a bit!  They are steel truss bridges, I think the Roman's built them. I've crossed them a few times.  They feed my irrational fear of bridge collapse.

It seems that a lot of bridges around the USA, and other countries too, are getting old and possibly past their "use by" dates. Regular maintenance can of course keep them structurally sound, but that costs $$. NZ largest bridge would be the one over Auckland Harbour. It was built in the 50s, so maintenance and inspection on that is pretty much continuous, when the crew get right across the bridge with the inspection / repair / repaint, it's time to start all over again.

Sawmills and Milling / Re: What kind of oil for track...

I've put ATF in a trigger type oil can.  It gets used on trailer hitches, bike chains and various other squeaky sticky rusty stuff where oil would attract dirt.  Oh and on the sawmill the little trigger oil can will give the mill 2 applications.

OK, so the used Hydraulic fluid from the Kubota tractor would be a good option?
Thanks for the advice!

Health and Safety / Re: Crazy Papers

When I retired and got my own insurance they tried that stuff with us too. We went along for a while, I had a 'video exam' during covid with them and they did a home visit for both of us. It was a waste of time, totally, and (no offence to my many Doc friends) the Doc they sent looked and acted like his main job was in a morgue. Not real sharp, moved very slow and just told us a little less than everything we already knew about our health. His most enlightening and helpful comment was "Well, you should see your Doctor about that". 'Yes, I already am.' "Oh OK, well keep an eye on that." 'yeah, I am '.
SO when they call, we blow them off. They would call all the time, and they send forms all the time, like junk mail. I don't pay to fill out paperwork, I pay for medical coverage. It's a racket, as my Pop would say.

I get cheapest ATF usually $20/gal now for example Supertech at Walmart.
Whenever I have used ATF from transmission/transaxle or tractor fluid change that's the best.
You dont need to filter it.

Health and Safety / Crazy Papers
Last post by Magicman - Today at 05:30:44 PM
About annually at the Dr. office and now with my new insurance provider (UHC) I have to fill out crazy papers about whether I can drive, eat, need help with household activities, etc.  Well I "did done it" and it's in the mail in case anyone sends out a search party.  :crazy_eyessmilie:

That plus they want to make a home visit and ask the same questions plus listen to my heart, weigh me, and take my blood pressure.  I ain't agreeing to that.  I already do my blood work and make my regular scheduled Dr. visits.

61 is soon.

A kid ran off the road and down a pretty steep bank in the snow one night not too long ago.  My BIL, who doesn't feel comfortable on a tracto called and asked would I come around the corner and pull him out.  I went.

When I got there the highway patrol, fire department and half the neighbors were there.  My BIL had pulled his tractor over, had the chains ready. All that had to be done was connect to the car and pull.

I handed the hook to the kid and said, "You go down there and hook to it where you want me to pull.  Be advised that if the bumper pulls off, the car turns over or is damaged in any way I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE."

The look on his face was priceless!  He said, "Let me go talk to my mom."  He came back and said thanks but they have towing insurance and AAA.  They would wait until the next day.  AAA wouldn't touch it because it was more than 50 feet off the road.

I was there when the tow truck pulled it out.  I don't think I would have hurt the car any worse.

The highway patrol gave the kid a ticket for something but I'm not sure what. I suspect either careless and reckless or improper equipment.
