Is it true that live trees struck by lightning can have some weird coloring through the grain?

Different species will exhibit different effects.  It also matters whether the tree survived the lightening strike and "healed" grew over the dead/damaged portion.

Lightening hit this oak and did some cool stuff! The rest of the tree had a big black streak about a foot wide in the middle, like there was metal but I never hit anything....

I met this guy at the CPFA this year - Dan Kepner.

He electrocutes wood on purpose to give it an artistic effect.

Lightning strikes ruin good logs unless the crack is straight and only one. Normally the log is spiral cracked.
