My bride and I start picking through parts to make the second MS660 with the 56mm cylinder...inspired by the puzzle she and her daughters put together on our vacation......set it up the same way. :)

very cool!  i been toyin with doing the same thing for months now and now its gunna happen!! :)
I have a couple questions: did you get all the screws from huztl as well?
And was the shipping issue difficult at all? I see many parts with free shipping, but not all.
Very much looking forward to more videos and that parts list as well. :)

Been toying with the 660 build also.  Would love to see a parts list and total build price lol. Whats the chances of getting to see this thing in action video too.

I built a 660 from a parts kit off of ebay. The company was machine doctor. Shipping was around $60 and with shipping combined the total cost was around $450 for the saw. I put it together and after only two pulls she fired up! Been running this saw for four months six days a week and could not be happier! This saw is a monster and I love it. Just my 2 cents
If you love your freedom, thank a veteran.

Machinesdoctor=Huztl=Farmertec  All the same stuff. Thanks for the input! Gives me more incentive  :)

Those yellow tape balls all originate in the same place.
Farmertec is also sold by other Asian vendors as well. Huztl is a seller, Farmertec is the manufacturer.
Wangluo and others also distribute Farmertec parts. (most of the Farmertec stuff is very good in my opinion except for their fuel lines which don't work well on the Stihl 1127 series saws. (they kink and shut off the fuel flow)
I've purchased hundreds of Farmertec parts and haven't had any mechanical failures (yet).
Too many chainsaws, not enough wood.
Stihl, Husky, Craftsman, Mac, Homelite, Poulan. Some live here, some just passing through.

Some of the stuff Wangluo sells is definitely not farmertec. So I would stick to Huztl & Machinedoctor and a few of the American resellers who resell the Farmertec stuff to be certain if you are looking for Farmertec parts.  Hoping to add a pile of Stihl project saws into the mix. Have a 046 as the next project saw.... maybe a 036 and possibly the smaller homeowner grade saws like 210's and 017/018 as the cost of these AM parts are low enough to make it worth repairing these vs. throwing them in the trash when they are at the end of their service life. How about a comparison between a Farmertec/ Stihl ms170 blend tweaked vs. a troy built, one of those no-name blue things u see at the building supply "outlet" stores, or even a poulan?

awesome!!  I just watched it, very encouraging stuff. good to hear the positive reviews from scott garret and deerslayer too.

I'm getting incentive to dig out my old 064's , 066's and boxes of good used parts. ;D
But I still get that memory back in my head when I ran one of my  066's a few years back for the first time in a long time....ancient old saw with lots of vibration  :D

I wish you weren't on the other side of the continent! I'm not a Stihl guy and muddled my way through that build! I would like to start the same build with an old set of OEM cases and would also like to have a real Stihl mechanical type help me understand places to be careful and also get tolerance info on things like centering the crank and setting the ignition gap to flywheel... I just guessed.

weimedog.  This was an awesome video and review.  Like he said I hope your getting something from this company for doing this cause you have me wanting to do the same now.  Where did you find your parts list.  I have thought about going to the local stihl shop to get a parts list but don't know exactly how he would feel about what im doing and if he would actually give me the list lol.  Great video man love to see more if you do more.

Thank you   :)

But parts list? Just a pile of parts that are available online, this wasn't structured....

My focus was assuming you start from a dead saw... so why not grab a dead 066 or 660? Or grab a "short block" off ebay to start with. Then just buy what you need. I didn't start with either a parts list or a plan!

The "Jig Saw" puzzle angle came to me when we were on vacation and my wife & daughters had one of those big puzzles and put it together ...so I thought that would be a cute twist to the build video... having the "old saw" be the "Box" to look at for clues and have me and my wife shuffle through a pile of parts doing the shape recognition thing and fitting stuff together to make a saw...an analogy which was closer to the truth than I would like to admit! I have those parts.. a couple of piles, to evaluate & to support a customer who has a habit of crushing big saws, as I stated on that first introduction video a month or so ago as part of my aftermarket parts series... just thought it would be fun to go right to a built saw.... and it was.

This isn't as much about the source of the parts as it is ANY one can build these simple saws, regardless of where you get the parts. I would not use a dealer for info unless you plan to get parts through him, that's only fair. My entire video series is about taking the mystery out of   working on saws for the enthusiast vs. selling any particular brand or parts. AM parts makes it cheaper.... but if you look back in my video history I used a junk pile of parts for the 372's, 350's and that 61-272 series I actually started with spike60's help here with a thread years ago now. This was just an extension of that theme. And my next build is on a dead 046... just saying. It's about the build vs. the source of parts. Although it was nice not having to put hours of parts cleaner time in.

Thank you, unfortunately I am not a good business man... just an old man enjoying the hobby and sharing with the video's.. I do get lots of help from folks you know well... knowledge in particular. In terms of business...my rewards will be work from local folks who see the video series.

well either way I appreciate the post man.  it was a great video and great info.  I am just now really getting into saws.  I have a mechanical background with motorcycles and what not as I raced for 12 years and done all my own work.  have a knowledge for engines just learning the mechanics of a saw and when you change this or that what it does in the end.  its a very interesting hobby and not near as expensive as motocross lol.  plus you get something out of it.  firewood.

Thank you yet again.....you are going to have fun with this hobby! AND it can help heat the house if you use wood! You won't need either directions or a parts list is my guess....:) AND on a cold nasty day you can work IN the house.....nothing I could ever do with the race bikes.

I have heard of a guy that took out the front door, frame and all to get his snowmobile inside the house to work on. He was good enough to hang a blanket up to keep the cold out and make his wife happy.  :D
This is also the same guy that needed a paint booth,so not having one he used the shower to paint a model A fender.  :D
They both came into the store the other day and I just had to ask them about that again.

Look under a new seller's name "leourparts"  Looks like he has a complete "saw puzzle"

This is an update, they now sell a complete chainsaw build kit from FarmerTec HutZl. you can buy instead of buying parts from different sources. weimedog has educated everyone already. I am a novice and made this video showing you what comes in the box and make helpful comments about those parts that are intended for the novice builder like myself. No building occurs. It will soon be Christmas and these kits as gifts would make you the best santa ever. You likely know much more than me about chainsaws but I am an expert on this kit. so my tips might be weak but if followed will make it a good build experience.

No chain or bars are included. in order to buy you need a paypal account. Kit cost around 250$ shipped for the MS660 to you, for me it worked buy. Cold beer and snacks occur would make your job fun

I've been cankering over this since I read this posting and viewed several you tube vid's. I have tried to contact Farmertec which I think is in the UK and have received no response. Where do you go to order or ask questions about doing this and purchasing the entire kit. Thanks in advance Walt

First Google Huztl ms660 and follow the information bread crumbs on the build. There is more current Information available.

Not on your phone or tablet go to Huztl.net to find the kits, there is 4. It's china where they come from. Leave the wallet alone until you follow the crumbs and by all means then join the party

Very interesting. I am curious as to the life expectancy of one of these saws. I have used their parts before but don't know much about them otherwise. I have a Stihl 044 and a 660 but at these prices spare saws are always good.

I seriously doubt they will last as long as OEM saws. Maybe the bottom ends but not the cylinders. That's just an opinion. Still I have a couple and also suspect they will out last my ability to run them so does it matter?? (Their lessor than OEM life span) These in the video were built winter/spring of 2015.

I just bought an 044 two weeks ago so now I would have to convince SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) That I need another saw. Maybe the kids will buy my one for Christmas. I think it would be fun to build one rather than just always fix them.
