Bring er on boys. I got some white oaks that need to come out between me and the neighbors. Not paticularly dangerous trees, but more then I want to tackle. Maybe we can get a mill up here to give us a quarter sawing demo also. ;D

How did you guys learn to climb? My boy is interested in climbing trees with ropes. I would like to give it a try but being a pleasingly plump 300+ pounder I'm afraid I would bounce too high if I fell :D

Kevin

Mark;
For starters he can get the Tree Climbers Companion by Jeff Jepson, be a good stocking stuffer.
It sells for about $15 and is a good basic tool.
He will need at least a helmet, carabiners, saddle, throwing line and weight, dynamic climbing rope and a hitch.
There are friction savers, loop runners, mechanical ascenders and lots more he can add to that if he wants.
There are training courses available.

that's my little brother up 60-70 feet in a red oak that was 100-110
that tree was 24 feet from the house. every piece came down by rope, no boo-boos
if the tree's coming out, the spikes go on. climb to where we need to be and tie off. spider out when necessary.

my equipment consists of rope, spikes and carabiners.

I like what Wes said, time is money

if you can't climb, do this

that ash was on the house. you can see the root ball in front. it landed to the right of the chimney.
one thing I can't climb is a 10/12 slate roof!
