JD Irving

Since I read the earlier post on Marketing Boards I decided to look at JD for the first time in years. Now that is a big company. I was looking at all they have such as Irving Oil, JD Irving Woodlands LLC, Ect. I haven't been around Maine for a LONG time, so what are they up to lately? Do they still higher contract loggers? Is there still alot of bad feelings towards Irving? Seems my cousins up there were not very happy with them. The equipment company I worked for would not even give financing for equipment even if someone had a signed contract with them. Finance guy said it wasn't worth spit because they would default on them constantly. Have they changed thier ways? If that was thier way I don't know first hand. PM me if you could please. Thanks

No guys nothing yet. I just didn't know If they would want to post anything publicly.I just know there was issues in the past and was wondering if things changed. I'm still wondering lol.

I think they're trying to improve relations by opening up their land in Maine to ATV clubs.
They have been sponsoring events with big cash prizes.  One was the annual Dog Sled race in Fort Kent.
That money brought in a lot of racers from away and is great for that economy.

I can't comment for JD Irving in Maine, nor as a logger, but I did work for companies that had dealings with JD Irving.

In Atlantic Canada, almost every business will deal with a division of Irving in someway or fashion. The Irving family enterprise is huge. They own alot more than people know as all the businesses are privately owned, so they don't need to publish any financial statements.

With that being said, their buying power rules. When selling to Irving, you have to make sure you have all your i's dotted, and your t's crossed as they will only pay what is on their PO. Terms are worthless, they'll pay you when they want (normally 90days) but they will pay you. When doing transactions with JD Irving, we would not sell them anything unless we had a Purchase Order, and that placed alot of strain on relationships with the loggers as they sometimes needed parts ASAP, but we would not release it without authority from Irving.

Irving is a very successful organization. They often have a bad rep as they are really good at business and have no sympathy in business transactions, but they will pay you. A business almost has to do work with them as they control so much here in Atlantic Canada. They do fund alot of local communities and universities and are much better at monitoring the environment nowadays.
