I bought an old DC stick welder today. It is a rectifyer. It is made by Unitor A/S in Stavern,  Norway, likely in the 60-ies.

It is full of soot and dust of all kinds. It is easy to open the sides and the top, but how should I clean it.
Wacuum or by pressurized air from the compressor?
Any better idea?

Finally a proper welder. I hope it will work. I am sick and tired of transformators.

I would use compressed air. Probably the only way to do a really good job.

Thanks for the advice.

I cleaned the welder as you told me and lubricated all moving parts. Then we shifted out the cables and the earth clamp and rod clamp.

Now it works perfectly.

To go from transformator welder to rectifyer was like going from a 70-ies Lada to a new BMW. Different worlds. It is a pain to think about all frustration I have wasted on the transformator.
Look forward to posts about some advanced homemade machinery in the future.
