Spring planing

A lot of people are starting their spring planting , were into spring planing .

We planed up around 2800 ft of 2x4 and 2x6 plus a bit of 2x8 yesterday . Pic shows the lumber after the first pass. 

We then passed the 2x6 back through the old Poitras three sided moulder planer to end up with it all dressed four sides. Will do the 2x4 when the weather changes for the better ( wet snow) here today.


Those old sawmill planers just blow me away . You keep them sharp and you can throw anything to them and they just sit there and chew through it . 

The old Poitras turns out beautiful smooth dead straight lumber . As soon as you get a pile planed you have to force yourself not to build another shed just as excuse to work with the wood .

well you do need a new large covered area to work 8)
