Hey everyone
First time posting here. Hoping I can get some advice on where to start.
Have a 450c with clark 4 speed transmission. 2nd gear is slipping when pulling a drag and empty going uphill. Sometimes will slip on flat ground with no drag when it gets warm. Runs normal in all other gears. I have changed the fluid, filter, and cleaned the screen. found some metal shavings in the screen.
am I looking a a rebuild or are there some simpler things i should try first?

thanks for any input

I would venture to say it is going to be internal clutch or seal ring failure.

If the second speed clutch or seal rings are damaged it should be slipping in reverse 2 nod as well.

Clean the screen out on the bottom of the tranny its probably full of gunk and broken down oil when you drain the fluid make sure you catch all of the oil; look for look for broken down friction plate material and bearing cages. My tranny was doing the same thing and ended up having to get it rebuilt. I was able to change the oil a few times and keep the screen clean until it finally blew 200 hours into the clean outs.
