I am in the contemplating stage of building a firewood processor and I have been thinking to simplify things have the log holder clamp spring loaded. It would apply pressure when the bar comes down. Maybe like a torsion spring like in a snowmobile suspension?
Thoughts?
thanks,

Sounds good to me, I'd use whatever large spring I had available. Simple is good in the long and short term. Some small processors don't use a clamp. This processor uses an angled infeed belt to keep the log pressed to the back rollers. Also notice the positive stop that raises out of the way as the saw is brought down.

That's why I am thinking about just getting something better than what I have which is a chainsaw and a splitter. Even the guys who have a cutting table at the same height as the splitter are ahead of me. Build it plain and simple to be modified later but build something.
