Stupid Signs

I saw a sign tacked on the side of a outbuilding today that said.
Wood Lumber for Sale. I thought to myself I haven't seen to much steel lumber or plastic lumber for that matter.
Here's one I saw on the net.

What kind of stupid signs have you seen?

Not a sign, but my father would say something like this in a heavy rain: 'Gee that's a wet rain' :

Yea I heard an old fellow I was working for when I was younger, say that he had to rest before he went to bed. Didn't make much sence thill I got older.

Every time I drive past a "bump ahead" sign now my meesus turns, wags a finger at me and says "Don't you dare!". :D

Back when I worked for the Maine DOT, one day we went out and put up a total of 3 bump signs. Yes, that was a full 8 hour shift for a total of 3 bump signs. When we got back to the camp and got ready fr home I asked the foreman.

"Wouldn't it have taken just as much time to fix the bumps in the first place?"

Thats a very sad, but true story.

He is a good one I see, just South of Dallas on the Kings Valley Highway: "Dip in the road".

Now, I have been called many things, among them, the above by the state highway department.

My favorite is, "Speed detected by detection devices." Really? ???

As you travel south through West Virginia on 77 there is a sign that says speed detected by arial survalance. The funny part is that it is 100 yards before you get to the tunnels through the mountain. ;)

On the highway here there are signs that tells you of deer crossing ... a little bit farther on .. there is a sign telling you that the deer are not all on the sign . :

I was going down a road in the mountains of NC when I saw a sign that read "slow children at play"...... went just a short distance and the next sign read "slow men at work"...... I guess them slow children grew up and were still slow when they were at work....

well, to top it off, just about another 300 yards there was a sign that read "slow funeral"

While we were on holdiay over New Year up North someone had stuck these stickers on all the 'Cow' signs in the area.

For some reason we found it very amusing :D

I want to give a precautionary warning about using photos from other websites since on a thread like this it is so tempting to do so. Its NOT allowable. Linking to them, or "Borrowing" them and placing them in our gallery is not an option either. Either one would be a violation of someone elses web content and band width.

Many photos now are being "digimarked", meaning they can be tracked, even after being optimized or edited. You all are responsible for your own posts in this regard.

DanG, our deer can't read, they just cross wherever they feel like it. :D :D :D

A couple miles south of my place there is a "deer crossing" sign, the little pictogram of a deer jumping, somebody put a little red sticker over the tip of the nose, it's reflective. Now I see Rudolph every night. :D

The DOT people put a sign up pointing to my little airport too, a green rectabgle with a pictogram of an airplane, the kids at the parachute school that fly out of it put a sticker on the sign, now there's a parachutist jumping out of the airplane pictogram. :

We have a LOT of signs that say "Road is in bad state" or "Bridge is in a bad state"

Puente está mal estado

Anyway, what is funny is that they don't remove the sign when they fix the road, so generally they are either an indication of a really good road, or a really bad one - often it means a section of this road likes to drop off the cliff...

So, when you see the signs, you don't know if you should speed up or slow down...

Not really stupid, but when I was younger we would travel up to Shushwap lake every year. At one spot there was a sign saying "watch for big horn sheep on road". Every year someone would add a y to the end of horn. I thought it was priceless :D

We have a road up near my house called Goose Pecker Ridge Road. I am not making that one up. Obviously the local tenneagers love this sign. Last year when they went to replace it after being stolen, they could not complete the installation before it was stolen again. :D

Jeff B, thanks for the heads up on the pilfered photos too. You are absolutely right, downloading photos off another website is stealing. If anyone has every visited my website, they know I have quite a few photos on there. I love sharing, but you could not imagine my surprise when I got an e-mail from a person talking about this big lobster picture. Yep, their was my own picture being sent back to me by a person that did not even know it.

The largest documented lobster goes to a lobster taken off Nova Scotia in 1977. It weighed 44 lbs., 6 oz. and estimated to be 100 years old. There is a rather large one in the Aquarium near St Andrews, N.B. to. The thing about lobsters is they continually grow throughout their life.

About 20 years or so ago. I went to Lukinbach Texas hoping to run up on Willie or Walon. It's just a spot in the woods in the middle of nowhere. Don't think I could find it again. We had to ask around untill we found it. There is supposed to be a sign but people want them bad enough to steal them as fast as they go up. Help me out here Texas Ranger. Where's Lukinbach?

There are two local towns along I-20 that are big high school rivals - Morton and Forest. Now both have a nice flowerbed on the exit ramp with the name of the town spelled out in boxwoods. Of course, the big thing to do for the guys from Forest is pull up the "T" in their rival's sign.

Now from the Interstate you read "MOR ON". I have always thought how funny that is...
