Winter battery chainsawing....

The cold weather finally broke, so i headed out to the woodlot running trails for a change. Took the Stihl MSA 120 along just in case, ok I really wanted to see how it handled winter use. Mild temps (32 degrees) and no wind made a pleasant ride. Cut a 10" red elm, a dead top from another elm and a red cedar top out of the trails. The saw has seen virtually no use in three months, has not been charged, but still showed four bars (full) charge. The trail clearing took it down to two bars, and re-charging to full load took an hour and ten minutes. Just some real life experiences for those contemplating a battery chain saw...

Not thinking about a chainsaw,yet,but a polesaw is on the list.

Are you using a winter bar oil?Unless your saw has a oil preheater..

Yes, using winter weight bar oil, and the mild outside temp wasn't a true test of cold winter conditions. When the wind chill drops to way below zero I have a tough time getting motivated to try chainsawing just for fun... :D...Scott B.
