Just an observation. In the video the testimony from the retired log truck driver - who said he had to drive fast and over the weight limit to make money. How did the retired log truck driver evade the weigh scales and the speed traps to make money? Back roads and the radio to be informed of the speed trap locations?

Probably won't be too long before the 822 is run tele-remotely during the day and the hands on operator can do a night shift to up productivity/ machine utilisation etc(depending on location noise etc considerations) cat and aussie remotes

Quick observation about the automation do you really think it will work? Have you ran a machine before? There's split second decisions that need to be made that a computer can't or someone on the other side of a computer screen. How would you thin remotely? Clear cutting isn't an issue but thinning I can see a huge problem trying to do it remotely.

If you look on the Tigercat fb page the other day, nsw, Australia.  three new Tigercat 855E with waratah 624c starting for the one logging crew on the same day, could be a difficult recruitment job finding 3 available skilled operators at once,  the alternative is taking the risk on the young  or inexperienced operators in expensive new machines. If the job is remote it may add difficulty to attracting the best people.

My understanding is JD and others are working on new simulators for the track machines etc.

This is one attempt at steep machine tele-operation.

This  Australian  train accident is probably one of leading examples at the moment of the technology competition between mining companies for the lowering the costs of production, with the aim of maintaining profitability. 2018 - my understanding BHP mines(who had the aus$300 million train accident)were trying a 1 driver train when 2 operators was the usual number. (BHP's competition Rio Tinto mines had the tech edge with a few successful driverless trains already). The 1 driver put on the wrong brake when getting out to check a noise, the train left without him. BHP  (I imagine driverless will be tried with log trains eventually)
The Aus mines and mines in other places are some of the leading examples of human operator machines (ore shovels) working with tele-remotely controlled dump trucks (operator 1000 miles away)

Machine learning etc is starting in other primary industries.
