I found this article on Chicago Boyz interesting from a standpoint of socialist economics as well as sawmilling.

Tom,
Very interesting article. Your always digging up cool stuff :P I am going to get that book.  Sounds fascinating.  More so with the sawmill work.

Makes one think about the social changes happening right before our very eyes >:( :o

Made me think about the story a fella on here shared about eating with a first generation immigrant on his birthday.  Don't remember the member except he was from NC and recently layed off.

Dug around and found his post

Great article.   A good reminder of what happens when the free market does not drive business but instead is guided by a select few with an agenda.

We have alot to be thankful for.  Lets just hope we remian "of the people, by the people and for the people". :o :)

Looks to be an interesting read. With recent events we may need to know how to survive in such a system. :( >:(

Interesting post. Looks like an educational read as I know very little about Stalin or this era.

Having been sick lately, I finally finished the book "1984" and this sounds right out of Orwell:

"I smiled to myself, thinking, It isn't the picture you're after. What drives you is the need, according to the prescribed Party order, to beat down the impulseds of people, to saddle them and make them your dependents by creating the impression that their success is due to "socialist methods of labor."

"1984" sure had a depressing end, and I presume it was also bleak for many people under Stalin in the 30's.
