Just purchased used saw, and have run a couple of tanks of fresh fuel mix. Saw seems to start, run and cut well. I checked compression, 5 pulls, showed 165# with snap on gauge with hose, then drops to 155 # and will hold that pressure, is this in the normal range ?. Saw probably has quite a few hours running time would be my guess.

150 is a good number. One of mine 460's didn't have much more than that from the factory.

i have them from 150 to 195 depends on saw and how old and whats been done to them.

I checked it cold, is that correct ? or should saw be warm ?  Does it matter how many times the starter rope is pulled ?

I keep at it till the needle on the gauge quits moving, depends.

You have to remember that a gauge reading is static pressure .Because of the way two cycle piston rings seal under pressure the dynamic or under running conditions will be higher .
