If you could only hav 2 may be 3 saws for everything :-X what size would they be or what saws?

I would have a Stihl 026 (favorite saw) to cut smaller stuff and then an MS660 with an assortment of bars to handle anything the 026 is on the small side for. That isn't an ideal line-up but is comprehensive if I was limited to 2 saws.

I have those two models with others smaller, in between and larger but I could get by with those if needed but it wouldn't be much fun.
Too many chainsaws, not enough wood.
Stihl, Husky, Craftsman, Mac, Homelite, Poulan. Some live here, some just passing through.

I mostly cut firewood now,but a few trees for the sawmill too. I have a 372 Husky and a 152 Efco,51.7cc. The Efco I use for a limbing saw. That little saw saves on my shoulder pain.

I run my 40 and 50 cc Echo saws a lot, once in a while get out a Ehco cs670, 044 stihl. cs8000 echo, husky 385, 7900 Dolmar,  Solo 690 or a 143 Dolmar.  I have a few other 50cc saws with no where near the power of those Echo 50cc saws.   Steve

woodchipper95

Seems like 50cc and a 70ish cc is the two saw set up. I like it now there wernt so many saws it would be an easy pick.....

Ohhh I wish I was a wealthy man then I'd have any saw that came to question...

Just a muff modd and good tuning, they really wake up with a muff modd.   Also your right a 50cc and a 70cc but I'd want a light 50cc saw around 10.5 pounds or less.  Steve

Not that I could imagine having less than 10 saws, but if I could only keep three of my saws, it would be:
MS361, MS460, and 084.
All Stihls of course. ;)

I'm looking for a light saw in the 45-50cc range to replace a toy trim saw. Gonna hotrod that one because I want it as light as possible with the most power possible.

My 64cc saw may or may not become an 80cc saw but there is little difference in weight so it will work just fine as a midrange saw.

I don't really need a 90cc-100cc+ saw but I am on the lookout for one that I can pick up pretty cheap. I want an old saw anyway so if I find an old saw in that size range it would work just fine since I don't think I will really be putting it to the test very often.

Reading about mm in some saws I found there is a need to do something with screws?  ???

ladylake

On a CS500p all you need to do is take the deflector off with 4 screws and remove a tube under it and open the deflector up some, almost like they want you to modd it.   steve

Only 3 saws? My wife would like that! Surely you mean 3 saws per day, not forever. Let's see, on Monday; I would take my Efco 7200, Echo 520, Redmax 4500. Tuesday; Redmax GZ7000, Efco 152, Echo 400, Wednesday; Echo 590, Shindiawa 488, a different Echo 400. Thursday; Efco 156, a different Efco 152, Echo 440. Friday; Poulan 3400(good old saw), Echo 450, Efco 3500.
What can I say, to many trees not enough saws. I currently only have 20. Greg

Of the saws I've run I am happy with my MS261 with a 16" bar and my 044 with a 20" and 24" bars. I am just a firewood cutter that also has some wooded pasture so those trees need cut up and removed when they go down.

Two saws?  That's what I have now and they're both 660s, one stock and one slightly massaged by TreeSlingr.   That's plenty for me.  Some years there might be a hold-over backup 660 but usually 2 saws is all I have.

Oh, wait...the wife has a ms250 .  It's her firewood saw. It sounds like a snooze alarm.

I have a Stihl 026, a Stihl 034 that I converted to a Super, and a Husqvarna 2101XP. A man can do anything necessary with those unless he is climbing.  But, all that changes on a fairly constant basis around here.

Ianab

Currently I have a MS310  and a Dolmar 7900 and that does the job.

I bought the MS310 when I was farming, and needed a general purpose farm/firewood saw. It done well. But I needed a larger saw for some bigger trees once I got the sawmill.  If I can't take it down with a the 7900, I should probably leave it alone  ;)

If I was replacing the saws, I'd stick with the Dolmar, and get a slightly lighter pro grade saw for the small stuff and limbing.  Something 50 cc or so. MS261, 50cc Dolmar or Husky  etc

Just what I have now; Husky 353 18" (50cc), and Husky 365 X-torq 24" (70cc). I keep my Husky 240 16" (38cc) for kindling and cutting pallets.

I cut firewood for myself, and help my friend cut logs on his farm. These do everything I need.

However, I do WANT at least one Stihl in the lineup. If I get extra cash, id like the MS261 just because!

Two saws hmmmm,357xp and a 390 xp.  If climbing then a 200t would be the third.

Two saws? Maybe three?

2 Jonsered 2260's and 2172.  I have the 2172 and almost a 2260 with my 555, which is a wonderful saw BTW.  Drop the tree's with the 2172 and do everything else with the 2260's.

So right now I drop the tree's with a 365/372 hybrid (With the 2172 as an insurance policy), and do most everything else with my 555. Guess if I get a 2260 I'll be done with the "dream" combo! 8)

I would be very surpriced if they aren't still made for some markets, but you need a lot of luck to find one in North America or Western Europe by now. They are there though, just not a common find! It may pay off to visit dealers that doesn't have the highest turnaround.....

I have 2 now,  a 30cc Echo and the 50cc Husqy 545. If I ever got one more saw I would like to have a 70cc, possibly the Stihl 441 C-M Magnum.

I LOVE these threads, but.........in the almost 10 years I've posted in them I probably haven't picked the same saws twice. So this time....... :)

One way to look at this is which 3 saws would cover the most bases. And each of us have different bases to cover. What we cut, where we cut. And for how long at a time. Some of us will run into larger wood more frequently than others will for instance, so a big cube saw in the line up will be more important. And we're all built a little different and have different comfort levels for what is "too heavy".

3 saws: 242XP, 562XP/2260, 930Super. 242's have surprising power for their size and you can run them all day long with zero fatigue. Perfect handling and 15,000 rpms make for a super quick saw. 562/2260 covers a lot of ground and nips at the heals of 70cc class saws. Very versatile and another saw that you can work for a long time. The 930 wouldn't get as much trigger time for me. But when you run into some bigger wood it sure is nice to grab a saw like that. Have 24" and 28" bars for it.

2 saws: 346 or 550XP/2253 and a 372XP. A 550/2253 has a little more weight than the 242 but a fair amount more power and will comfortably handle larger wood. 372 doesn't really need an explanation at all. And for what I actually run into could handle 90% of what I would do with the 930 super.

1 saw: Would pick the 562/2260 without hesitation. Not too heavy for small stuff, plenty of power for larger wood and smooth as butter.
