I ran out of chainsaw oil and decided to use some spare motor oil from my truck to finish the job. It was syn 5w-30 (yea, not the cheapest at $6 a quart   :D).

I was surprised when I started the saw and started cutting. Not only did it sound different, it REVed faster, and it cut faster. My 365 almost turned into a 372 with an oil change   ;)

All I can conclude is somehow the oil pump puts a big power drain on the engine. I doubt it had anything to do with lubing the chain better. It was a tad cold (30s), but, the oil gets so hot from the saw I doubt that has much to do with it.

I wonder if they use full syn on racing saws?
