A hydraulic motor (salvaged), hoses, two sprockets, chain (salvaged), da hydraulic valve, and a hydraulic flow control valve. Here she is.

It's gunna take some practice to get a little smoother.

Sprocket and chain. I got a bunch of free chain from work. The nob I turn after the third pass is the flow control valve controlling the feed rate forward. Backward speed just depends on how far you pull the lever. I just have the chain attached to the carriage with a wood screw for now. If the carriage gets in a bine the screw will brake before anything else... hopefully

Looks great!  One question.  Is the blade at an angle in relation to the track?

Jake, I did pretty much the same thing with my bandmill but used drum and wire cable. I used the same speed control valve but put another valve in the return line to control the gigback speed. that way I don't have to feather the spool valve on return. If I had that windfall of chain I would have used it to. Frank C.

I was actually considering putting another flow control valve inline to adjust gig back. I havent tried this set up on a log yet to see how it works. I am goint to try it out this weekend, I wouldnt be surprised if I order another one monday.

Nice job, Jake.
If I used mine more I'd be looking into doing the same.

Today was the first time I got to try out the hydraulic feed and setworks together. I am definately going to order another hydraulic flow control valve for the return. If you get a little frisky with the lever it will pull the carriage off the tracks. It has built in catches that keep it from coming completly off but it still isn't fun setting it back straight. The blade was pretty dull and it was cutting about 18" of pine so I was cutting pretty slow. I still haven't put the larger sprocket on the setworks either so it is slow as well. At least it's a start!
