Hey There,

I was grabbing my saw the other day and noticed this little circular hole next to the bar on my saw. Am I missing a screw or is that supposed to be there? If so, what is it for? It is a 2012 372 xp x-torq.  It is awesome and I love it! I did get it used and it was missing two screws that go into the muffler, and that's why I am wondering if I should have a screw in that hole? The hole is between the dogs and the bar.

Thanks,

Forrest

Bar adjuster? A quick image search shows a front mount mechanism; perhaps on older models? Does yours side adjust?

I took a quick look at the 372 we have here at the shop, it has an open hole just like yours. Chain adjustment on these are in the clutch cover.

My thinking is they could have recycled the casting when switching to a side adjuster, leaving an unused hole. Is there a channel behind it where a threaded rod would go?

Yup the original 371s had the adjuster there they just left the hole on the later castings I had an early model saw once I took the adjuster out and put on a newer side cover with the side adjust

Yep I was going to say the same thing. The early 371 introduced around 1995 had the front crankcase adjuster screw. The 372 came out around 1999.
