Hey All,

I am considering installing unlimited coils in my 346XP/NE and 372XP X-torq so I can accurately tune them.  When I tune them to 4-stroke prior to bumping the limiter they are noticeably down on power with slower throttle response.  They both feel good when tuned against the limiter however I don't like not knowing for certain whether or not they're too lean.  For those that would ask, my motivation for this is simply getting the best power out of my saws without running them dangerously lean like they are when set up from the factory.  Both saws are muffler modded and I would appreciate your inputs and patience as I am only just beginning to take my saws beyond factory configuration.  Regards...

Plug checks are a great way to tell after some run time. Tach's are cheap too... can save a lot of hassle.

Agreed, I have not gotten a tach yet and I need too.

Josh, you really don't want to be bumping the rev limiter when tuning saws with speed restricted coils. Once you hit the limiter, you never know how much is too much cause it will sound the same as you continue to lean out the adjustment.

Both saws take the same unlimited coil. Only thing you have to do is trim the wire to the correct length for each saw.

SPIKE60,

What you stated is exactly why I don't like tuning with rev limited coils.  If tuned to the limiter, you're guessing, if tuned under the limiter, you're loosing power.  I will be ordering a tach and non-limited coils for both my saws at the end of this week.  Thanks.

I put an unlimited coil on my 365xt for the very reasons sited. However, I know Spike recommended keeping the R's around 13K. Mine didn't hit the limiter till 13.3k.
That big piston may put a strain on the lower end and doesn't stress go up with the square of the RPM.

49er,

You illustrated the #1 reason I need to get a tachometer.  Just because the saw hits the limiter doesn't mean it's not turning too many RPM's.

49er,

Thanks for your service and welcome.  I am 16 years into my Air Force career, I worked on F-15's and F-22's.  I've been flying a desk for 6 years and still miss the smell of JP-8 in the morning.

Wow, F-22's I saw one at Thunder Over Louisville do things I never thought a jet could do. It was very impressive.
My Dad was an Aviation Chief in a B-17 squadron and spent all four years of the war in the Aleutian Islands, now that is service.
