Oak burl?

Is this a burl next my my goofy boy or something else?



If I remember correctly that was a white oak.

That pic is not very descriptive but that looks somewhat like the stub your boy has his arm on was once part of or maybe the main stem. Perhaps it was damaged long ago and very slowly atrophied while meanwhile the tree got it's nutrients from the part that is now the main stem to the root system. If that is the case the healed up stub would probably have swirly grain like a burl. Pretty good witness to a creative response to a very hard life more than a typical burl growth is my guess..

Wow, I've never heard of that happening before.  Very reasonable explanation to me considering it doesn't look like a typical burl.  So maybe an underdeveloped siamese twin? Lol.  Thank you for that response!

Come to think of it, It is a survivor of an F5 tornado back in 96.  A lot of the other trees were uprooted and a large patch of poplars grow there now.
