I'm pretty much doomed because of Tammy. Kids climb on her bus go cough cough spit hack good morning Mrs. Brokaw, then she comes home and kisses me.

You would make a good research Guiana Pig.  :)

thanks for the kind words  you made me feel better  :)

Our neighbor, Jill, sent Tammy a text a few minutes ago.

"Tammy, I just saw on the news where they said because of the sub -zero temperatures, we should check on the elderly. Is Jeff okay?"

That's very true Jeff!

I was up against that a few years ago myself, retired from driving bus in 2012 with 20 years service credit!

Both Chuck and Jeff, my wife was a nurse for 15 years, I'd imagine it'd be about the same although I think SHE had built up some immunity, I on the other hand had not.  Now she works at the vet clinic so I just have to worry about what she infects my cattle with  :D.

Crusarius

Jeff, thats great. I hope you at least laughed at it :)

I sent her a message this morning. She has three adopted daughters in school. She hates it when they have snow days.

"Jill, did you hear? The three days of sub zero weather caused the pipes at the Harrison middle school to freeze and break. They think it will be the end of next week before they can get everything fixed"

There was a very long pause after I saw it was marked as read.  I'm sure she first clutched her chest, then gasped, then took three deep breaths, then called someone that would know all about it.   :D    I got a message back.  "THEY DID NOT!!!"  :D :D

Will we see any drastic changes from a new server or business as usual?
The older I get I wish my body could Re-Gen.

Jeff

You should see far less slowdowns because the new server will have 5 times the ram and 5 times the physical memory.  We were only at about 35% on using up our storage memory on this server, so the new one gives us tons of space for the future.  We still have tons of space here, but its the hardware and software life that has forced the change.

There could be issues with the search, and perhaps the gallery when we get switched over, maybe some slowness until I get things optimized.  I'll find a way to work over any hurtles that may pop up.  Today I  spent the afternoon relearning and practicing unix commands and syntax that I had forgotten in regards to copying compressing and transferring files via ssh, tar gzip and scp. The files and directories supporting the forestry forum and the gallery, NOT counting the database, is well over 1 million.

I do not know what I am talking about but do you like put it in zip form?
The older I get I wish my body could Re-Gen.

I am picturing the scene from the end of the movie "War Games" when all the computer screens are flashing constantly, numbers everywhere, complete chaos, then it all goes blank for a few tense moments before "Hello Jeff - Do you want to post topic?" appears.

Jeff

yes, its actually a tar.gz  file. The server right now is gathering, compiling and compressing into one archive file, a gzip file.  That roll of files are what are being added to the zip file.  Once it is done, as long as it isnt corrupt, I can then move the one file to the new server for the gallery. This is the biggest move.  Then comes everything else. Then the last back up data bases which I will use to test. Once I think everything is going to work, I shut the forum down and do a final database up date from here and move that over., then we move forestryforum.com to the new I.P. address on the new server nd re-open for business.  The first day, things may try to bounce back and forth until the DNS propagates through the internet.
