You must need some deer flies and moose flies. An overcast day here means a day with no deer flies. ;D

Down here, the yellow flies are more of a nuisance.  However, ticks can be deadly.

I actually think I'd rather have ticks than chiggers.

I hate chiggers as much as you hate sweetgum MM, I put em right up there with poison ivey, hope they leave you be from now on.

I got me a "mess" of seed ticks on the 3rd.  'Bout the smallest that I have ever seen, or maybe "not seen".  Itched...yeah.   :-\

They are heavy this year and they are smaller than usual.

I snatched another off last night.  I say snatched because once I see them, they've gotta go.

Be happy you don't have the 'pepper-tick', that's just what they look like until they swell. I've had them on me by the hundreds at one time! I soaked them with tick-repellant, burned my clothes, and still had those critters in my truck for weeks!

I had reported previously, back in the early '80s I was very ill with what some doctors thought was lyme disease. Two seperate hospital week-long stays. Fever every day, chills, rash, aching joints swollen; pain and the dope they gave me, the hullcinations, night sweats and nightmares; then crutches, then a cane, and one foot swollen to where I had to wear a cast-boot for  six weeks. Took nearly a year to get over and back to normal.

Years later I went to a tree-farm day, the special guest speaker was a Doctor with specialties in Lyme disease and Brown recluse spider bites, his research was written in medical journals and the Doctor had a tree farm very near where our property[he did research on ticks there] was located.

I have never heard them called "pepper tick", but I well understand.  We call that smallest nymph a "seed tick".  I got my magnifying glass out to look for chiggers and found ticks.

That's true, they are seed ticks. 'Pepper ticks' is local, but to finish the story, we had squirrel hunted and went over to a resturant for dinner and cool down a bit. I began to have this hot, itchy, stinging sensation on my ankles and shins...something like stinging nettle has caused before, hundreds, maybe a thousand  seed ticks were crawling enmass up my legs!. So we left pronto, I stripped and luckily had the repellant, then soaped down really well with cool pump-water, finally relieved.

I was recently tested for Lyme disease and the test came up negative, so glad of that.

You can say that again!

Saw an article that said there is a newly discovered tick born disease in MO. So far only two know cases in the world. Somehow related to Haunta virus but not the same.

Once bitten, twice shy, they say. Where did you see this info on new tick disease?

Magicman

I got wrapped tight with Chiggers Friday & Saturday, I guess when I put the trailcams out.  I am scratching places that I had forgotten I had, and certainly can not see.  They especially seem to love waistlines, etc.    :-\
