Anybody ever build or operate a yankee yarder? I'm thinking of building one.

Maine a yankee yarder is a small gas powered winch that you can either use as a regular winch or can be rigged as high lead.

thecfarm thanks for the thread links. I started thinking about it and I have an old simplicity two wheeled tractor that looks like a big rear tine tiller minus the tines and in my mind (which is a very very scary and dangerous place) I could extend the frame and add the winch drum to the front of the tractor and just let it "walk" to where ever I need it. I would use a double belt pulley on the engine and use one belt to power the tractor the other to power the winch and just leave the machine in neutral while useing the winch. time to get out the soap stone and start drawing on the shop floor.
