instanly saw that and said ash.
in the area i live in many ash tree's are showing there death due to a big ice storm we had 15 years ago, along with white birch, sugar and rock maple.
a great fire wood tree due to its ability to burn "better" green versus other tree species.

It split fairly easily. The wood was partly frozen but it was not as stringy as other species I have split.

Definitely ash, elm is close to unsplittable.

Yellow poplar is diffuse porous.  The wood in the pic is ring porous.
