Logging Accident Sends One To Hospital

Montreal River, Ont. One man was taken to Sault and Area Hospital by ambulance after a logging accident in the Montreal River area yesterday afternoon.

At about 1:15 p.m. yesterday two men were cutting and topping trees on Mile 67 Road about 30 kms off of Hwy 17 in the Montreal River area. One man cut a tall tree and when the tree fell it struck a smaller tree in the same area. The entire top of the smaller tree snapped off and struck the second worker.

The second worker was transported out of the bush to Hwy 17 by private vehicle and an ambulance was called. The victim was transported to Sault and Area Hospital with possible back and internal injuries. The victim has been identified as thirty one year old Russell Newton of Thessalon.

The Ministry of Labour was notified and continuing the investigation into the accident.
