I have a sow and cub hanging around for the last few days. She had tried to get to my bees.

The marks are about 6½' off the ground. I put more screws in the wood where she was pulling on. The other day she was in the green house. :D :D By the time I got the kodak she was gone.
:snowball:
I like bears. The older I get, the more I just enjoy watching critters and letting them be. When I was younger I was always looking for a reason to hunt and shoot everything.
I've been having one of them come to my bird feeders. Well only bird feeder now,I only have one. The bear smashed the other one. I've been bringing the feeder in each night.
Nice "Bee Shed" Pete, I like it. ;)
I am glad we only have to worry about the skunks down here (and Veroa mite, and Small hive beetle). Hopefully she will not get to them. Do yall paint your hives up there?
S S S I have never had any trouble losing chickens in 5 years :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X ;D :)

Some do, I don't, The wt supper is an old one.
Peter, do your bees stay in that cage?
Do you have to bring them food and water? :D
I wouldn't dare keep something like that around. My She-Bear would have me locked in it, all the time. ;D
I had a visitor, too. Yes, I still had a birdfeeder out. It's 20 feet off the ground and I blocked off the porch stairs but I guess bears really do have a keen nose because it finally left when I put the feeder indoors and started my diesel truck.
Throwing rocks and milk crates and yelling 'bad bear' hadn't worked :D
I even fired a round from my 380 in another direction...hurt my ears !
Wish I'd gotten a picture of it falling out of the hemlock tree which made quite a racket since there is still metal porkypine guards on that tree !!

I think you need those air horns in a small can but I'd they want birdseed then they get birdseed
Nice pic, The first one with the face [who me, your talking to me] look :D :D :D
My feeders are out too , 6' from the ground. I'm sitting here with the window open and I can hear 3 of them hooting back and forth.

Ann and I just love the wildlife in the yard. We even had a woodchuck running around the yard today Trying to hide behind a dandelion. :D :D :D
Save the Bees!
We just had one of them pass through the state, its been years....I having trouble remembering when I saw the last bear sighting reported.
Great bear and owl pictures!
Nice owl picture. Looks like it's on a shepherd's hook? Probably close to the house.
I don't hear or see many owls. Last one I saw must of been 20 years ago. I was showing Brenda the property lines and one kept landing and flying in front of us.
It was Cfarm, We have a bunch here I think it's because Ann and I feed so many things It's good eating for a lot of animals here. :D :D :D They do keep each other in check so no one animal get's to many ahead if you know what I mean.
Like the woodchuck Mr Fox will find him, And maybe I can get a pic of Mr Fox.
Ann is getting a lot better , How are you and your honey doing?
Glad to hear Ann is doing better. ;D
Brenda is doing fine. As long as she don't rototill the whole garden in one day. ::) She thinks she can go from 0 to 50mph all at once. Than she fell a couple times. One real bad one. You know, the one where there is nothing but air around you and you are straight out and than the ground catches up with ya. :o
Brenda needs to slow down some. ;) But, with the nice weather I can't blame her. smiley_sun
I was looking out the window and saw this little guy.

But he did not want to.
:D
Said he'll be back later. :D :D :D He was small, maybe 40lb.
He did have some bread before he left. I KNOW DON'T FEED THE BEARS. ;)
So cute ! Look at those eyebrows :D
"My" bear was passing thru my yard the other morning but didn't want to talk either .
I got up this morning and saw the same thing at my feeder. I woke Brenda up and told her to grab her phone. The bear was scratching at the ground getting the bird seed. It did that for about 15 minutes. Than it reached up and knocked the feeder down. That was enough of that. The fun and games was over. I opened the door and said,That's enough. It obeyed me, :D and took off running.

I have a nesting pair in a big Red Oak tree in front of my house. I have a street light in the backyard and I see them hunting at night under the light. I will try to get some pictures.

I'm yelling at the cat to let BoBo be, In the last pic the cat was coming, but turned and ran right up to the bear. I'm thinking the bear will get the cat :D :D I had to walk up to pick up the cat to get the thing away from the bear. I got within 3' of the bear and he did not move. :o
More friends

The bear is back. Well I knew it was. More than a month ago it took down the suet feeder. I brought them inside each night for a few weeks. All was well. Saw someone that lives about a mile away and the bear was there too. Last night the dog got me up just a barking. I turned the outside light on and saw a shadow under the feeder. The shadow never moved. With no glasses on I could not tell what it was. Only being awake for about 30 seconds, was not thinking, I thought, did I leave the tractor out? So I opened the door and the shadow moved and took off. :D I decided I better bring the feeders inside,so if the shadow comes back,it won't wreck the feeders. I head back to the bedroom to get my glasses, need to see something when I go out. ;D I tell Brenda about the shadow and go back outside. I open the door and never looked at all. The shadow was back!!! It took off again. I brought the feeders inside and went back to sleep.
I am back to bringing the feeders back inside for a couple weeks.
And that's all it takes to have the shadow go away cfarm, ;) good job. 8)

That bruin has that tough guy grin on him.
Probably thinking: ' Yup, got that feeder full of honey and seed - AGAIN!'
And, he looks a lot smarter than Yogi. ;)
He was a good Bear.
Had one visit here a couple of weeks ago, ripped the bird-feeder box right off the side of the house! :rifle:
So far, it hasn't been back, had a game cam out there for a week after the fact!

What did you think Yogi would do with food on the side of your house. :D :D ;)
Maybe an old one with dementia and can't find your house again, Is why he not back.
:D :D ;) just kidding.
No food, no bears.
I knew it was a bear, because the brackets the feeder was on was pretty solid and the screws were ripped right out of the side of the house.
The feeder was/is about 6 feet above the ground and there's no way coons could get to it!
The bear is back. This time when Pumpkin started parking at 2 am,I put my glasses on. Could not see what was wrong, everything was intact. I looked out this morning and the suet feeder is on the ground. It was the one it wrecked the last time,so I can just wire it back up. Back to bringing the feeders in for a few weeks.
thecfarm, are you the guy who ran faster than a couple of bears? Saw something in the news about some guy doing his run and he outran 2 bears.
I had a visitor the other day too, Charles the Timber Rattler
(https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/34510/IMG_2703.JPG?easyrotate_cache=1499632882)
Glad we don't have them up here, at least I've never seen one!
We have several nonvenomous species of snakes here, and that's enough!
This was the 4th or 5th rattler I've seen by the sawmill in the past 2 years. Charles is just a small guy with a big heart lol
Tastes like Chicken
Not really. Very musky, you smell it when you bring it up to your mouth on the fork. Smells almost as bad as goat.
Then alligator tastes like Chicken

if you have snakes up there count me out for a visit :)
I'm no runner, but I might turn into one if I was scared enough.
We also have a small platform feeder, which I did not notice,is bent at a sharp angle, should be flat. That is kinda a problem, because that one is bolted to a post, kinda hard to remove at night. But I might have to put it on a pipe so I can bring it in at night.
cfarm SSS :D ;D

C'mon I thought you was a big bad logger!! ;D
Here's a black rat snake that hung around the mill for days kept popping up out of nowhere. I coaxed him into the main rail of the sawmill to help get rid of mice.

This is the biggest canebrake rattler (also called timber rattler) that I have encountered. This one could put a hurting on you. This visitor is not welcome.

That's good stuff.
WDH I wonder if yours has any relation to the yellowish one I posted. I see the yellowish ones almost as much as the mainly black ones...not sure what the deal is. My neighbor swears that one is diamondback and one is timber, but I also thought that there weren't any diamondback up here just timber rattlers.
We are getting alot of kangaroos around here too they are becoming a problem.
Here's a video of me jacking ones jaw:
https://youtu.be/BeeRpahAhH8
and here's one at my neighbors house:
https://youtu.be/83_ORxgrfL8
Pesky buggers they are...
I was always told the yellowish ones where females :-\
Makes sense, I've never picked one up and checked it's undercarriage but I remember back in the boy scout days they taught us that males have two schmeckles :D
WDH, you eat snakes??
I have eaten rattlesnake on several occasions. Not a preferred food.
Haven't seen a snake worth worrying about, ever.
Those Southern critters give me the willies!
Good thing I'm this far North.
I'll take the risk of being turned into till via a really fast glacier.
Snakes don't like glaciation.
