Strihl 362 Oilomatic chain
« on: February 22, 2019, 06:15:53 PM »
I have been running Oilomatic 33RS-72 chain on my 362.  Why?  Because that is what it came with and the dealer has them when I need them.  They work well but do not have a comparison.  Go through a couple each winter.  They run about $25 at the dealer and I see them on line for $22 to 24. They also have a "low kick back" but I have never tried. Is there an alternate chain that would be better before I buy a couple more.  Use the 362 for felling and bucking the large diameter logs of primarily oak.

Between Oregon and Stihl, I like Stihl chain waaay better. Harder steel, and less stretch. I have some Carlton I bought for beater duty, but haven't tried it yet. At two chains per year, I wouldn't consider anything but Stihl. Not enough money to save to bother with lesser chains.

edit:
In case I wasn't clear, I don't think it gets any better than Stihl chain. There may be better choices to save money, especially if you're thrashing it on junk wood, but imo, Stihl provides the best user experience.

I use RS33 and RS35 on my saws. Best chain I've found so far.

rs cuts faster and is great when sharp but dulls faster when in the dirt or sand.  ms cuts slower/smaller chips, but tolerates dirt a little better.  Keep some old chains for the dirty stuff.  ms is the less likely to kick back chain.

doc, here is some 35RM .058 chain right here. Tough chain and getting rare as hens teeth in .058 gauge.
