Anyone know where to get refer ship container in Mich area?
« on: November 28, 2005, 06:10:15 PM »
I"m looking for 20' refer shipping containers in the mid michigan area.  I've been trying to find people who would be somewhat near by for reasonable shipping, or hopefully pickup.  I'm installing a nyle kiln unit.  Anyone?  What was the best price?  Trucking costs?

Kelvin,

Run a Google on shipping containers, you should find 2-3 compaines in the Great Lakes area that sell used shipping containers.

I bought mine out of Baltimore for about $2,500 each, insulated Stainless Steel lined.

Frank,

The units are 20' long, purchased from K&K International in Baltimore, MD.

Check your local Yellow Pages for storage/shipping containers.

Also, a good resource is the Heavy Equipment Trader, I see adds in the local edition for containers for sell.

From what I have learned, the "Hi-Cube" units are notavailable in the 20' long containers.

Try here.  http://www.containerusa.com/services.html
They are a national broker that has containers in Detriot.

Kelvin,

I purchased a 28' semi-trailer refer for $800. I got it at Phil Brinks Equiment in Holland. Great guy to deal with and he delivered it. Check your local ordinances. I have to remove the wheels and tires and set it down on  foundation. Some ordinances I guess will not let you do anything other than "store" in these tpes of containers.... Save all the disparaging remarks about the government. I have already said them all!

My Nyle 200 works great in the 28 footer.

When I worked for Ryder Vehicle Sales they use to pull the reefer off a straight truck for anyone that wanted it and then convert the truck to a faster selling dump. Especially if the aluminum showed bad pitting and it was winter, not the best time to sell a reefer.

(Note that RVS is not the same as Ryder (Sears) Rental)

Kelvin, Did you ever find a shipping container?

Frank, Call ContainerUSA as they are very slow on answering emails.  They were very helpful on the phone.

BTW: With Ryder, if you buy the truck, you can usually get the truck delivered from another state for a few hundred dollars. Though in MI I imagine there is no shortage of reefer trucks. You can always buy a nice reefer truck, take the reefer, and sell the truck cab and chassis for almost as much as you paid for it originally.
