KD Hard maple, 8/4 and 4/4
« on: January 06, 2006, 05:05:00 PM »
I need about 125 bf of 8/4 and 100 bf of 4/4 KD furniture grade hard maple, preferably within 100 miles of zip 42420 (near Evansville, IN), but I will travel further if the price is right. Rough sawn is fine.  Width doesn't matter much for the 4/4 but I need some 8/4 pieces that are 8" wide and ~ 8' long.  If anyone has some or knows where to get it, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks.

Furniture grade is not very clear is it? Sorry about that. I called a guy today and he said he had 'furniture grade' maple and I suppose I had that term stuck in my head.

The 8/4 needs to be fairly clear with very few knots or wormholes, the 4/4 doesn't have to be as good as I can cut around any defects. I intend to make some bedroom furniture...sleigh bed and a chest of drawers from maple and cherry (I have the cherry). So maybe FAS is the grade I need?

chisel ---

FAS may have enough defects that your small purchase will not have enough large clear areas for the large pieces of furniture that you want to make.

I am sure there are people who can supply you with clear lumber in the sizes that you need.

Chisel,

I'll be sawing Hard maple shortly and heading to Indianapolis with a truck load in mid Feb. Although I'm not sure if the hard Maple will be out of the kiln by then or not. Let me know if Indy is close enough and if you are interested.
Mobile Demension sawmill, Bobcat 873 loader, 3 dry kilns and a long "to do" list.

Oakiemac,

Indy is not too far, but we'd have to meet on a Friday afternoon or Sat/Sun since I work during the week...and the maple would have to be a very good price since Indy is about 190 miles from me. Let me know if the days could possibly work for you and if the maple will be out of the kiln by then.

Thanks for your offer.
