First Post:

I've been reading all that the Forestry Forums has had to offer for the last two years. I hope that what I have gleaned from my studies here will add to my success. We are due to pick up our Woodmizer on October 6. First time sawyers here, so we went with the LT50HDD35W-RA with all her bells and whistles. I would like to start a modest business with my grandson that he can take over when I'm no longer productive :D Thanks for all the hours of enjoyment reading your adventures. I look forward to sharing some of our own.

I run a woodmizer LT15 start mill, extra set of bed. I designed a mechanized feed system using #40 roller chain, fixed and idler sprockets, 1 HP AC electric motor, gear reducer, and reversible drum switch.  I can vary speed by using step pulleys if needed.  This really saved on time and effort.

Had to rethink the ac motor thing, they could not handle the duty cycle of constant start stop forward/reverse.  Thermal breakers would kick in about after 30 minutes.  Got a good deal on 3/4 Dayton dc with speed control forward reverse etc.  I designed a toothed cog and lift system so I can engage or can free the head and use it manually.  This comes in handy when I want to see how the blade FEELS, like say its feeling dull, or short in the tooth or just plain board!!

I have an LT40HD on order, should be here in a couple weeks.  I have used an old LT30 in the past.

I have never owned or used a sawmill, but have wanted one for many years. I finally ordered my choice of mills- a Cook's AC 36 with 69 horsepower diesel, sharpener, setter, and band roller. Hope I can make a few bucks with it.

Cook's makes cant hooks and is including one along with 60 blades and other goodies in the package. If it doesn't meet expectations, I will certainly buy a Logrite!

I recently built a homemade 36" capacity bandmill(still working the bugs out) It's powered by a (don't laugh) a 22 horse power predator engine. It has torsion axles so you can remove the wheels and make it stationary.

Picked up my Cook's AC3667T, sharpener, setter, and band roller along with several other accessories and goodies on Thursday, 5/16/19. Sawed one log and determined that the mill is much more capable than me at this time. Also had a 40x60x14 pole barn built on Saturday. Got the mill in the barn and leveled today. I have pics, but cannot find out how to post them.
