Thanks Paul.

Now I know where there's some ERC.

But it's not very close to home.

Down state and to the west a little!

We have a couple of different varieties of ERC.  I'm not good with descriptions, but one is sorta like hemlock in that the leaves/needles are dense and gathered and flat like your hand.  Another, the leaves/needles are almost individual and and much less dense.  The lumber seems to be the same.

I guess that I should get some pictures of the two.

that would be good i would like to see them since i thought there was only one kind. i know that here there are some that grow good and some that dont but i believe  that to all be due to location.   pc

Well out here on the Coast of Washington good Old growth western red sells for $1000 a 1000bf in log form. Hell you can get $500-$700 a cord for 18 inch shingle bolts. I guess your talking about 2 nd growth, which isn't worth pissing on compared to the Old Growth.

Here in Nebraska most of it was planted by my grandfathers and great grandfathers generation.  You can tell when the tree groves are square that they were planted around an old homestead.  It's what we've got so its what we use.  You could call it old growth if you want as it is the first generation of trees.  The plains must have been pretty bair before that.

I sold 1 board of ERC today. It was natural edge planed to 7/8" x 13.5" x 103 " long and priced at $6.00/ bf when customer came along the price was already written on the edge in the sapwood in pencil($51.00). He didn't bat an eye and just said he wanted it with two parallel edges and planed to 9/16" . Edged it, planed it, then I just smiled and waved as he drove away.

The log came from kentucky

Got 6 more ready, but dropped price to $4.00 /BF since I paid a sawing customer $2.00/BF so I had some available to other customers. Better that puting money in the bank.
