Tenon Cutters
« on: January 14, 2013, 08:02:57 PM »
Would like to find a 2"x4 1/2"x8" or 11" tenon cutter.

Interested in other used cutters as well such as a 2"x4 1/2" or others.

Please send a PM with what you have.

Thank You

I am a timber wright and see many used tools, here and overseas.  I don't know of any tenon cutters in that size range, could you give me more info, I'll keep my eye out.

Thanks Jay.

It is my understanding the 4 1/2 is the max log diameter. The 2" is the size of tenon it will cut. Most have an adjustable   tenon length such as 3 1/2; 8; 11 etc.

I'm dumb sometimes...you mean a round tenon, don't you, or am I wrong again?  If that is the case, use the type that works in a router, the tenon can be as long as you want.  I just made some last year for handles on my wheel barrow.  They are 500 mm (18") long.  Does that help?

Read the reviews on the type I have.  Some folks don't care for them, because they don't leave a perfectly smooth Tenon.  I've never found that to be a problem, but will answer any questions you have.  Lee Valley is also making some nice tenon jigs that have counter sinks, that go with them, and they make a doweling jig.

Yep as used in log furniture etc.

I would prefer the drill type.

Thanks
