Sawmill Service in SW Michigan Wanted - BIG Log
« on: June 22, 2018, 08:04:39 AM »
I'm looking to have a large diameter (60"+) red oak log slabbed in Southwest Michigan.

We had some not quite as large logs milled by a local sawyer that we found via the Woodmizer website, but he can't touch anything this size with his equipment.

He mentioned a Lucas mill, and provided a name, but that particular reference will mill logs brought to him, and we have no practical means of moving this log (it's in the 8-10' long range).

Is there a good resource for locating services?

You might try the Extra button on top here of the FF or look at the WM site under Services for their Pro-Sawyers in your area.

Another option might be to talk to local aroborists/tree services and see if they know someone with a mobile slabber that big or see if they have the equipment to load and haul the log to the guy with the stationary slabber. Those slabs will be heavy but a whole lot easier than moving the whole log. You can make several trips with a smaller trailer if you have to once it is broken down into slabs.
