2" walnut boards
« on: July 11, 2018, 05:56:49 PM »
I'm looking to make a couple of kitchen tables for myself and my dad out of walnut. Does anyone have any 2" thick walnut stashed away they're looking to part with? The first table will be 4'x8' and the other 4'x12', so I'll need at least 160 bd ft. I'm good with widths down to about 8" and can handle the gluing and assembly of the tables. I live in Fort Wayne Indiana and am willing to drive a few miles to pick up the wood if the deal is right.

I'm a friend of Busybeaver who mentioned this might be a good place to locate the wood I'm looking for.

Thank you in advance to anyone that might have some walnut.

Tom

I have some green 2” walnut l would love to make a deal on but a 10 1/2 hr. drive is likely prohibitive ;D.

I have 8/4 kiln-dried walnut boards and some really big/nice/wide slabs that just came out of the kiln yesterday.
In PA, but shipping is possible. I have tally sheets I can share with you. Contact me for more info.

I own my own small piece of the world on an 8 acre plot on the side of a mountain with walnut, hickory, ash and spruce.

KitchenTable, I’d talk to PAWalnut.  He’s within driving distance, his material is kiln dried too.

Personally I would suggest that you consider a width other than 48”. 48” wide tables tend to resemble a piece of plywood and the proportions are not pleasing.  42” is acknowledged to be a standard width for a dining or kitchen type table.

Best of success to you with your project.

Hi kitchen table / Tom, this is a good place to find what you are looking for and support a hard working mill owner. I have suggested this forum to a few people for various things but I'm drawing a blank on a Tom from fort Wayne. How do we know each other?

I like 39" to 40" for a tabletop width.
