Bought new toy for the mill, well maybe not
« on: September 02, 2018, 04:14:22 PM »

found this the other day and bought it pretty cheap. Only 250hrs on the motor. Whole package is a 1991 from Ranger boats. the build quality is second to none . Put a new sonar in it and ran in the local lake. The detail of the bottom is amazing, spotted what appears to be some big logs on the bottom , marked them with the gps just in case. Was wondering if they would be any good, probably been there for 70 years or so.

I've read there's legal issues with recovering sunken wood. Not sure what they are, but it would be worth  looking into if you're serious in trying. I do believe the wood could be desirable. Nice boat  :^)

Yeah, smallmouth bass are predominant in many of the lakes now. I like to catch them on a fly rod,lot more fun when you hook up.

I live by a pond, brothers and me would fish smallmouth bass all day. Than we got older we took the boat out. We really had some found than. Father would take the boat up and we would chain it to a tree and we would walk up and back with paddles. Than the older brother got a job and bought a trolling motor, pond was town water supply, and that was even more fun. I can still hear my brother hollar at me to keep the line tight or you will lose it, as the bass was dancing across the water.
Yes a fly rod is fun. Somehow they got their hands on one,fly rod, only one day and they had fun with that. I was kinda on the young side and they would grab it from me. Must of of 5 of us in that boat. Seem like one of my brother friends had it.
We had the best luck with a black rappler.

Smallmouth bass are not native to Nova Scotia, they were first introduced in Bunkers lake in 1942. I lived on another lake (Doctors Lake) in the same system a few miles down stream from there but don't recall any small mouth bass until the late 1980's.

A report made in 2010 says there are confirmed reports of Smallmouth Bass in 188 lakes in Nova Scotia in 2008. I'm sure its a bit higher than that now.

FYI: Nova Scotia has 6674 lakes of 1 hectare or greater in surface area.
