You're welcome to them if it's worth making the trip.  I only know a couple people who like to use a few. The rest just end up on the ground.

I'd call it an un-glorified pear.  You can eat a pear right off the tree, but you can't eat a quince until you do something to it.  Usually involving sugar.  Deer don't eat them.
