« on: January 22, 2019, 11:06:10 AM »
My Johnsered Dealer  has a RedMax GZ5000 which is a re-branded Johnsered 2252 and a Johnsered 2258 i like them both going to use the saw for  heavier limbs  when clearing fence rows have a Johnsered 2245 for cutting smaller limbs

Good morning, and welcome to the forum.   You have you eye on a couple of fine saws.   Never owned a GZ5000, so I can't say.  It is a 50cc saw.  The 2258 is nothing more than a Husky 555.  Its a 60cc class saw which I have own at one time.  It was a very smooth running saw which I liked using.  It has auto-tune as well.  My pick between these 2 would be the 2258.  But wouldn't be afraid of either.  Dealer support on the RedMax is something I would check into.  Husky owns both, so you should be ok with either.

So Husqvarna 545 vs 555.

For limbing, it's kinda a no brainer. Get the 2252 because it's lighter.
I  have a few videos on my channel of 545 if you want to see what it's capable of.

I guess you have no issue the saw being redmax rather than jonsered?

I *really* hate the name Red Max. Sounds like a box store's Chinese made house brand. They should have tried harder.

Yeah Jonsered 2252 = Husqvarna 545 with different colors.
It's a really good saw. And for limbing it'll be one of the best,

Of the all the Husqvarna Autotunes, I think the Husqvarna 555 and Jonsered 2258 were the least quirky over their time on the market. I have one of the early ones, excellent farm saw. Haven't had to do a thing to it other than add bar oil and gas & sharpen chains. Unless there is a burning reason not to, I would pick one of those two saws ( 555 2258 )as a general farm saw over any 550 545 variant. Every time. When the MK2's happen that may be a different story.

I agree.  Since you already have a good 2245 limbing saw, why not take a bigger leap to the 2258/555.  Just 15cc difference here.  The 2258 isn't that much heaver than the 2252/545.

I have a Jonsered 2252 and I like it. You do have to follow the recommended
procedure when starting it or you'll do a lot of yanking. For it's size it's a real worker.

Allar, I can't put my finger on the manual right now. I think they say to set the choke by setting the Choke/kill switch to the up position, then push the primer bulb (don't overdo this), then pull on the starter pullcord. As soon as it starts to fire, shut the choke off(just push the switch down) and pull again. Setting the choke and then pushing it back down when the saw is not running will set the high idle. When using the saw they say to run it at full throttle or it screws up the autotune. Hope I told you right and it helps.
