Dump trailer for ATV
« on: August 03, 2019, 06:56:05 AM »
I bought this trailer new about 10 years ago and only used it a few times. It cost $4000 new. The dump cylinder is not as rugged as the trailer. It might dump leaves but not dirt so I leave it tilted and lock the gate before filling.
It holds a yard and my ATV with tracks and low range had no trouble towing it full of crushed stone.

What is the brand & model, and what are the dimensions of the box?

If it has that much trouble dumping, I wonder if it's a design issue, or if there is just a problem with the cylinder or pump - or if a yard of crushed stone (about 2700#) or a yard of dirt (2000 - 3000#, depending on how wet it is), is just over the trailer's weight rating).
If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.   - Abraham Maslow

It's made by Nichols in Farmington, Maine. Not sure if they are still in business.

Data plate says GAWR 4000. GVWR 2990. Date of manufacture 9/05 so I guess I've had it 14 years because I bought it new.

It has an electric hoist. I've wondered if the geometry was wrong, also. The actuator seems too long to get started lifting. Wouldn't be hard to weld in another cross member and use a shorter 'cylinder'.

Inside of box is 72" long, 35" wide and 19+" deep. I repainted the inside a couple of summers ago.
