Maple is worse than pine [hard maple]. It's color turns gray once it warms up turning high grade to low grade real quick. Even when done live from the stump it will sticker stain unless you re pile to move the sticks. All maple has no heartwood so all that water has to come out and warpage is terrible.  White woods in general are for the experts with kilns. And then the powder post beadles . For the little guy [like me] you want dark hardwoods or pine in fall and winter.
