The general agreement in the last thread that I read, in a forum on another site, was:  A McCulloch in disguise.

spaulding;

It might help if you had a picture of it.

from what i can see in the movie and all the scale models , its yellow , that is why people are saying its a mcculloch , but in movie trivia sites it states its a poulan (which is brite green)  , its hard to get a picture bcause the chainsaw had only a few dark and quick shots ..otherwise they both look very close ..this is definetly driving fans crazy .. i would love to discover the truth ..! thanks ...

spaulding

ok , just saw a clip from the movie , its definetly a yellow body with a black top , looks like the spark plug is on the rite side .. if that helps ..

Tom

Pretty interesting that people care.  I would go look for the fun of it, but, for some reason, chopping people up with a chainsaw, intimidating people and being a hero murderer just isn't my bag.  I've never thought these types of films were healthy for the public. :)  Each to his own, I guess. :-\

If it was hard to start & really LOUD it was probably a McCulloch  :D :D

sorry you feel that way Tom but horror movies have dated back to the early days of American history and they are a form of art and free speech , besides if you watch the movie youll see the chainsaw was only used in one scene , no one ever said he is a hero figure , its just good old fashioned scary movie tactics ..like Dracula , werewolf, frankenstein... most people grew up on horror films ... but if you really want horror , just watch the 6 00 news ,.. please dont take offense to this .. thanks

Tom

no offense taken.  I don't have the stomach for them. :)

I'm going to take this off on a tangent, based on what Tom said.

The last book I have read was The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

Anyhow, he has the father saying, "Just remember that the things you put into your head are there forever."

The boy asks if we don't forget things.

Father answers, "You forget what you want to remember and you remember what you want to forget."

That is so true, at least for me. Forgetting what I want to remember isn't so bad, especially when you get to my age and have that as an excuse, but not being able to forget what I want to forget is a killer for me. Those bad things which I want to forget just keep popping up to the top. That's why I don't watch horror movies. I don't want more of those things I can't forget.

Okay, end of my tangent. Back to the chainsaw identification....

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

I agree with both of you, Tom and Doug.  Life is bad enough without needing to create fake drama and horror.  People go get their dose of the fake stuff so they don't have to deal with the real thing.  IMO, anyway.  :)

spaulding

thanks warbird , now its clear why i watch horror movies and everyone else does , wow , its so clear to me now ! ...but anyway i thought these threads were about chainsaws ,not about people judging each other ...i just want to know what model chainsaw was used and all i am getting from some of you are opinions about people and what they do.. you should re-name this forum to something like "My take on Life or Whats wrong with this world .Com" . Well anyway , for those who tried to help ,thanks...and for the rest of you , try to enjoy life  ..remember , we live in the great U.S.A...not Iran (where you can be hung for possesing horror movies)

Bro. Noble

I hate horror movies and refuse to watch them.  When I was in elementary school,  my family moved to town and my folks took us all to see a pitcure show.  They had to take me out because I became so frightened------some little kid's nose kept growing longer just because he told lies and skipped school :o :o

spaulding, I guess you have just intruduced us to a new facet of chainsaw use. You see, we don't get much call for chopping people apart out in the woods, so we really don't know how to help you. ;)

Yes, you're right.  :)

It works both ways though.  It allows others to voice their opinion as well.  Freedom of speech is wonderful.
Usually, you will find, that the subject matter here is not always directly aimed at the question, but then, that's how it is in real life too, eh? :)

i am not real into horror movies either, but i would like to see the old original massacre. i do not have any proof but for some reason i want to say it was a muccoulh chain saw.
those movies always scared me as a kid so i never got to see any of them. i was lucky though as i got to see all the old westerns that i wanted, the sad thing is about half of those old westerns were not old when i viewed them. ::)

We used dynamite in the well drilling for three generations. They ( Ins. Co.) took it away from me, because of the roadrunner cartoon. The road runner taught the rest of the world what it was used for, a toy. I do't want to lose my chainsaw.

Think the circle saw been hurt by the movies too. >:(

Its just trivia.  What happened to Fonzies Jacket or Laverns Sweater.

I think the original sold on ebay a couple years ago for some crazy price over $10K.  I recall it was a poulon 306 that was painted up by the film people.  The original color did not fit in well, so they painted it up yellow.  If they woulda known Mac were yellow, they would have just gone and bought one instead of wasting time painting.  The props guys couldnt even remember what brand of saw it was when asked years later, they thought the guy asking the question was a lil we todd did.
In the remake the saw is a Husqvarna 359 with a 28" guide bar. These saws are made today and were not available in 1973.

#2- What brand of saw did John Candy use in Uncle Buck?

#3 What brand of chainsaw did Michael Keaton use in Mr. Mom?

# 4  What is common between those two movies and the use of a chainsaw?

Other movies featuring chainsaw: Texas Chainsaw hookers, Evil Dead, pulp fiction, Friday the 13th.

I'm full of random bits of general trivia that can entertain for hours.

spaulding...  didn't mean to offend you.  You are right about one thing...  the USA is, indeed, great.  :)

To lighten up the mood, here's a funny chainsaw video for you that fits the occasion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wcyh3S08d9Y

I laugh pretty hard every time I see that.  :D
