I spent 20 years in Navy. Our middle daughter and her husband both served five years in the Army... And our youngest son-in-law is in the Air Force.

Only two more services and we'll have them all covered. But I'm out of children and SILs. Have to wait for the next generation I guess...

My father served in the US Navy during WW2 and my oldest son is currently serving in the USAF. Dad was in the Pacific during his tour. He had some hair raising stories to tell.

I was at Arlington National Cemetery on Veteran's Day in 1961, and watched President Kennedy speak and place a wreath on the Unknown Soldier's Tomb.  Doesn't matter that I wasn't particularly fond of Kennedy.  He was still my President and is the only President that I've ever seen.

We then had to haul booty to get back on base before our weekend passes expired.

I don't care much for Applebees but they are offering a free entrée to veterans and active duty. A local chain farm store, Bucheits, offers 10% to vets and active duty on Veterans Day.

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

I was in the Army in West Germany from 61-64. Took Elvis place guarding the East German border so he could get back to making those movies.  ;D

Was also there when Kennedy visited and gave his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech and also got to be there on full alert when JFK tried to start a shooting war with the East Germans. Don't think many people in the US ever heard about that little incident but the entire Seventh Army in Europe stood by their vehicles all day with weapons loaded and waiting for the tank battalion to blast open the gates to West Berlin. Fortunately the East Germans backed down and opened the gates just before they got there.

We were supposed to be just a delaying force but I am not sure the Seventh army would have needed any help. We were outmanned but a heck of a long ways from being out gunned.

Was also there when JFK was shot in Dallas. The W Germans sure had fallen for Kennedy in a big way. Seems to much like now and I sure hope history doesn't repeat. That was an ugly time.
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

I have hit Golden Coral the last 3 or 4 years that they have done the vet free dinner, will maybe do the one at Applebees too?  it is for one of 6 En trees  free, not the meal per the website that I can see.

I was in AF 6 yrs, was basically booted out after gulf war (D. Storm) back in 1992 by Clinton when they cut the forces in half.   Otherwise I probably would be retired already...  :( :o
anyhow just wanted to say thanks to Ohio Bill.

Some slime bags damaged the WWI epitaph in Fredericton just last week. There are some members of today's society with no respect for veterans or patriotism. I hope they find these particular thugs and string them up by the testicles in the town square.  >:(

Have a good Remembrance Day (Veterans Day). It's a holiday up here.

I served in the Canadian reserves, never saw combat, but knew many who had in WW2. These broken men and widows made quite an impression on my young mind.
You Americans observe Veteran's Day, here we call it Remembrance Day, and you also have Memorial Day in May. What is the difference?
