Longyear, LLC , Marquette, MI, (www.jmlongyear.com) is a privately held, 120+ year old company with focus on ownership and management of natural resource assets.  As one of the largest forest land owners in the Great Lakes region, we are a leader in forest management and sustainable timber harvesting.

We are looking for a Forester with at least five years’ experience to manage company lands and purchase standing timber in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin.  Duties include timber sale management and prep, procurement, harvest administration, road layout and construction, BMP and environmental compliance.

Requirements: 
Bachelor’s degree in Forestry
GPS, GIS, Microsoft products with excellent Excel skills
Excellent people, communication and team skills
Understanding of forest economics

This position has considerable travel and a good driving history is necessary.

Description:   Assists Reservation Forester with forest management planning and implementation on the Grand Portage Indian Reservation. Primary responsibility is timber harvest management. Assists with all aspects of Forest Management.
    
Qualifications:   Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry or a closely related field of study with forestry experience. Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable. Experience with ArcGIS is desirable.

Bayfield County is in northern Wisconsin with a lot of Lake Superior frontage and the take-off point for the Apostle Islands.  The County owns and manages about 170,000 acres, the fourth largest county forest in Wisconsin.

Description

Weyerhaeuser has an opening for a forester in our Lakes States Timberlands Region located in the Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  This is a full-time, exempt position, with salary level dependent on skills and experience.  The role is responsible for working with our Timberlands Team on all aspects of our forestry business including land management, timber sale setup and administration, product merchandizing, real estate, and environmental compliance.
 
Key Functions
·       Participate in the planning and preparation of timber sales including harvest area identification, sale set-up and boundary layout, and layout and construction of logging roads.
·       Logging contract administration and supply chain management including product merchandizing and quality control.
·       Implement silvicultural regimes that maximize the value of current harvest and future value of stands
·       Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, BMPs, and SFI principles.
·       Maintain harvest plan and spatial/tabular detail for forest inventory maintenance in Integrated Land System.
·       Interact with the public, government agencies and other industry professionals.
·       Strong advocate for safety within the team and throughout the operation.
·       NOTE: This position is about 75% field time and necessitates working in all types of weather conditions and terrain.

Qualifications
·       B.S. Degree in Forestry or related field desired.
·       2+ years of forestry experience
·       Demonstrated experience in timber sale setup, managing logging contracts, and log merchandising preferred.
·       Knowledge and use of ArcGis desktop preferred.
·       Strong written and verbal communication skills
·       Team player with ability to work effectively with people of varying backgrounds
·       Computer proficiency in use of MicroSoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
