My Sister and Brother-in-law are spending the winter in Florida. Never figured Pete would turn into a snow birdie but he has.  Anyhow, they have a tree there that he was sure was an oak, because it has some acorns.  I told him to take a picture and have Lynda email it to me. Pete being Pete, I got these two leaves in a letter delivered today. :D

My best guess would be Turkey Oak?

That was my first guess.  Don't have my southern tree book with me now, though, so couldn't consult it.  ::)

I'd stay that is a pretty good guess.  Ocala has a lot of sandy dunes that the turkey oak likes.  You can cook a pretty good steak on that stuff.  :)

Looking at the leaves should explain why they are called turkey oaks!
