I was send this in an email from a near and dear friend.  All I can say is thank you to the "Good Old Boys from Mississippi - THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Justice and honor will seek its own level...

   -----
On Saturday USMC Staff Sgt. Jason Rogers, who was killed in action in Afghanistan April 7, was buried in Brandon, Mississippi.

That, by itself, is a sadly unremarkable - though certainly noteworthy and solemn - occasion for us to mark.

And in fact when Sgt. Rogers' body returned to Brandon it was greeted by hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of well-wishers who gathered at the roadside to honor the fallen American hero. The dashboard camera from Mississippi state trooper Elmo Townsend's cruiser gives an indication of the scene last Thursday. http://nation.foxnews.com/culture/2011/04/21/mississippi-shows-how-you-handle-westboro-freaks

What is most notable about Sgt. Rogers' funeral in Brandon, however, is what didn't happen.

You see, the troglodytes from Westboro Baptist Church had threatened to spew their poison at Sgt. Rogers' funeral.

But the Westboro mob wasn't on the scene, and Sgt. Rogers was laid to rest without incident - thank God.

   Why weren't there protestors?

Planning ahead by the locals, as it turns out.

   >From an Ole Miss sports message board, a tidbit of information.

A couple of days before, one of them (Westboro protestors) ran his mouth at a Brandon gas station and got his butt waxed. Police were called and the beaten man could not give much of a description of who beat him. When they canvassed the station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had happened.

Rankin County handled this thing perfectly. There were many things that were put into place that most will never know about and at great expense to the county.

Most of the morons never made it out of their hotel parking lot. It seems that certain Rankin county pickup trucks were parked directly behind any car that had Kansas plates in the hotel parking lot and the drivers mysteriously disappeared until after the funeral was over. Police were called but their wrecker service was running behind and it was going to be a few hours before they could tow the trucks so the Kansas plated cars could get out.

A few made it to the funeral but were ushered away to be questioned about a crime they might have possibly been involved in. Turns out, after a few hours of questioning, that they were not involved and they were allowed to go on about their business.

Fred Phelps, the disbarred lawyer and Democrat activist who leads the Westboro congregation, will undoubtedly pursue some form of legal action for the way his people were thwarted in Brandon. Let him try. There isn't a jury in Mississippi which will see things his way.

This is a template for how to handle the Westboro people. If lawsuits don't work, other means will. Whatever it takes to keep them from harassing bereaved military families on the day their fallen loved ones are laid to rest.

My hat is off to them. That's the way to do it. I wished I could be there and see that all unfold.

smiley_clapping   smiley_clapping.  I probably know some of the locals who took care of the problem. I lived in Brandon for 20 years, good salt-of-the-earth people,  not the kind of folks you'd want to mess with too much. Them crazies probably don't have a clue just how lucky they were.

Piney, I totally agree.  Well done, Brandon!   I sure hate it when the church members' recently upheld civil rights are temporarily put on hold to protect the common decency of a fallen soldier!  ;)  Maybe the town will have to pay a fine for their actions.  I suggest compensation of $1.00.  I think the argument that the police were merely protecting the interlopers from an unruly Brandon mob makes a perfect defence.

I think they all should have been given the treatment of the first one. Proud of your local law boys.

Dang! That story reads like a scene out of "Mississippi Burning". If the boys, the police, and Judge went to all that trouble, why didn't they just hang 'em and bury them under a dam?  ;)

As I often like to point out, the Bill of Rights guarantees you the right to free speech.  It does not state you don't have to deal with the consequences of utilizing said right.  ;)

Absolutely,  and the great respect shown to the  late Sgt. Rogers who stood tall in service of his country to guarantee those rights.  But, I'll forever remember NOT to have Kansas tags on my rent-a-car in Mississippi! :o

Just Me

I don't necessarily agree that we should be in Afganistan at all, but I would be first in line to whip someone if they showed up at a funeral here. One of my friends son died over there and there were enough baseball bats at that funeral to supply the major leagues. They did not show thankfully.

I believe in god, but this form of religion is no better than the one we are fighting over there.

We have had to deal with them for years. Between the Patriot Guard and other measures, they never get close enough for anyone in the funeral procession to see them. In its own strange way, they inadvertently do good. It brings everyone else together.

Good thing I don't have any trips to Mississippi planned. I got the wrong license plate.

As a United States Army Soldier, who has lost a friend in Iraq in 2008...This brought tears to my eyes. I'm so proud of those American citizens, and law enforcement officials who escorted them, and showed their respects. If anything were to happen to me, or any of my brothers and sisters in arms; I can only dream of getting the same respects.

I am even more proud to be a part of this Country's military after watching this.

Much respect,
